Shawn (The boss demon with the cocoon and the deadpan) is a character in The Good Place, part of The Bad Place. Shawn is Michael's supervisor: an ancient demon with the affect of a dead-eyed middle manager, who finds enthusiasm distasteful and torture best when efficient. He arbitrates disputes by encasing himself in a slime cocoon, greenlights Michael's experimental neighborhood against his own better judgement, and waits with bureaucratic patience for it to fail so the old ways — penis flatteners, bees with teeth — can resume. Shawn's deadpan contempt is the Bad Place's institutional voice, and the last obstacle to fixing the afterlife's math.
