Brida (Saxon-born, Dane to the marrow — the road not taken) is a character in The Last Kingdom, part of The Danes. Brida was captured the same day as Uhtred and chose the opposite answer: where he kept both souls, she burned the Saxon one entirely — lover first, then fiercest critic of every oath he swears to Wessex. Brida's path runs through Ragnar's hall, Dunholm's fall and a grief that calcifies into vengeance, until the girl from the woods is the Dane war-leader hunting her oldest friend. She is the series' shadow-Uhtred: proof of what his choices cost, walking.
