Death (The kindest of the Endless, at the end of every life) is a character in The Sandman, part of The Endless. Death of the Endless does the family's hardest job with its lightest touch: she meets every life at its last moment — chipper, unhurried, in sensible boots — and takes the arm of kings and pigeons alike. Her episode with Dream, feeding gulls and collecting souls across one London day, is the series' heart: the older sister who tells the sulking lord of stories the thing he keeps forgetting — the function is the point, and the point is them, the people, every one.
