Matthew the Raven (The dead man with the feathers and the questions) is a character in The Sandman, part of The Dreaming. Matthew was a man — died badly, dreamed his way into the job — and is now Dream's raven: scout, sounding board, and the only member of the court who asks the audience's questions out loud, usually mid-flight into danger. His running commentary is the show's pressure valve and its sneaky heart: the freshly dead human teaching the oldest being in the cast how people work, one sarcastic croak at a time. The boss is weird. Matthew stays anyway.
