Athelstan in Vikings

Who is Athelstan in Vikings?

The monk between two gods · Wessex

Athelstan (The monk between two gods) is a character in Vikings, part of Wessex. Athelstan was illuminating manuscripts at Lindisfarne when the sea brought the end of his world. Taken as a slave because he speaks Norse, the young monk becomes Ragnar's property, then his confidant, then something neither has a word for: a friend, and a window into the other civilisation. Caught between the Christ he vowed to serve and gods who feel disturbingly alive in the northern dark, Athelstan is the series' soul — the question of faith given a face.
