Lucy MacLean is Vault 33's model citizen: rifle-club champion, fencing team, B-average in repair, raised on okey-dokeys and the certainty that vault dwellers will one day recivilize the surface. Her arranged wedding to a dweller from Vault 32 is the proudest day of her carefully scheduled life — right up until the wedding guests turn out to be raiders and her father is dragged into the wasteland. Lucy goes up after him, golden-rule manners and all. The surface will negotiate with her manners.
